We have put together 2 group excursions for the Wednesday afternoon. They require registration – and an extra payment – via the Indico site (same as conference & workshop) and have limited places. Latest sign up/payment for both is 4th of August.
Below the group excursions are also some DIY alternatives that are ‘pay as you go’.
1. Vikings
A trip to Vikinga Tider, an open-air museum outside Lund, located on a 25-hectare cultural area rich in animals and nature. Using knowledge from archeological finds, the park has brought the Viking Age and the early Middle Ages of southern Sweden back to life.
You will hear all about Viking customs, conquests and day to day life, and get a ‘show and tell’ update of the latest archeological finds from land & sea, plus play popular games of the time.

2. Beer tasting
Just north of the city center we find ‘Lundabryggeriets Ölkällare‘ a pub that serves up fine (local) beers and honest food. You will get to try 5 of their own, locally brewed beers whilst getting to know the brewer, the different types of beer & the history of the brand, everything accompanied by 2 medium plates of ‘Swedish food’.
- Walk to the venue in a straight line from Stadshallen (800m, 11 minutes)
- Try 5 different beers from Lundabryggeriet (20 cl each)
- Try authentic Swedish herring & meatballs (vegetarian alternative offered)
- Possibility to buy a ‘Nubbe’ (Swedish schnapps) as well, if you dare!
3. DIY Excursions Lund
Lund Cathedral

Guided tours in English on Mon-Thu 14:00 – 15:00. Free of charge.
Tour starts in Domkyrkoforum (modern building on opposite side of the square).
An unmissable landmark! Dating from the 12th century, featuring a crypt with a small giant’s statue and a tall story, plus a unique astronomical clock from 1425 which still performs twice a day (12 & 3).
Skissernas museum
Finngatan 2. Open 11/12-17.
Entrance fee: 100 SEK (75 SEK with XRM badge!)
Guided tours in English, Sat 15:00.
A unique art museum that features the world’s largest collection of sketches, models and preparatory work for public art, including work from Henry Moore, Ferdinand Léger, Sonia Delauney and Matisse. Visit the spectacular Birgit Rausing hall and relax in the outdoor sculpture park.

Kulturen in Lund is both an indoor and open-air museum featuring an extensive collection of historic buildings and beautiful gardens from the Middle Ages up to the 1930s. Indoor, there are around 20 exhibitions to explore highlighting art, folklore, design, culture & history.
Botanical garden

Free entrance
Home to over 7000 species, it has been part of Lund University since the 17th century. Walk through the colourful plantations and stop at the pond to watch goldfish before eating an ice-cream. The park runs a diversified operation within botany, gardening and ecology for research at the university, and all to enjoy and explore. NB: the greenhouses are closed for renovation.
Besides these, Lund has the Historical Museum, Museum of Life, Hökeriet (The old grocer’s shop), Saluhallen (food shopping) and Lunds Konsthall
And let’s not forget Malmö! Only 15 minutes by train, and with the Malmöfestival (webpage only in Swedish) surrounding the XRM week – check it out!
